Our first tryst with BreadTalk was in Thailand – we didn’t know about the brand at that time. While waiting an hour for our flight, we were scouring the airport for something to nibble on. That is when the aroma of fresh bakes took us to BreadTalk – and we fell in love. The effect of the aroma of fresh bakes on your appetite is nothing short of magical and we literally gorged on what we could see!
Having had that wonderful experience, it was ecstatic to hear that BreadTalk was coming up with their outlet in Delhi NCR – the first ever in India at Select City Walk Mall, Saket. Needless to say, it was a never ending wait to go and experience the magic again.
There is no way you can miss this quaint outlet on the first floor of the mall – the aroma surely draws you in. Be prepared to wait – something that the limited seating and a continuous flow of patrons aid towards. For the 60 minutes we were at the outlet, we just saw people flocking in and never saw an empty table! And why not, starting with just one out in Singapore in 2000 – BreadTalk is now spread across 18 territories with about 900 outlets across the world – known for quality ingredients and finger licking good bakes.
You can expect to see Buns, Danish, Donuts, Cakes (a whole variety of them – sliced/dry/steam), Sandwiches, Puffs amongst others. In savories – expect to see Singapore Curry Chicken Bun, Chicken Parmesan, Salted Egg Lava Croissant, Himalayan Pink Salt Roll and Tuna Bun on offer. We tried quite a lot and were left longing for more – but a few things stood out – either because they are not available anywhere else, or they are finger licking good.
Don’t miss the Japan Light Cheesecake – you will love it especially if you don’t have a sweet tooth. Perfectly sweetened, this one just melts in the mouth. Messy Buns – the name is explanatory – dig-in, lick your fingers, let it get messy. The Floss Buns are a craze worldwide and now we understand why – one bite into this and you will understand why BreadTalk has sold more than 100 million worldwide.
With everything made fresh at the outlet, and the open kitchen letting you see what is done with the food being served to you – BreadTalk just imbibes a sense of confidence in the quality of food that they serve. It’s not just what meets the eye, even the ingredients are top quality and are sourced globally – be it the Japanese milled flour or the pure better from New Zealand, each ingredient passes stringent quality checks – and the quality shows in the end products. We also took home a Baguette and a couple of breads – just couldn’t resist the temptation. A pro tip – their Baguettes make excellent bruschettas!
