Last Sunday, with mercury soaring to 45° C in Delhi, we were exploring some nice chilled out places to seek solace from the heat, and our search landed us at Cafe Indian Delight, Kirti Nagar. It’s a new café/restaurant opened up in the bustling & biggest furniture market of Delhi, giving the shoppers a much needed and fantastic place to chill & enjoy some lip-smacking food & drinks after a long day in the market.
The décor of Cafe Indian Delight is nice, open and fresh. The place excels in presentation of food and adds theatrics to some of the food items – I can go back to this place again just for this experience.
We were welcomed to Cafe Indian Delight with Curd Spheres, which they serve complimentary on all tables – this was in two flavors – kiwi & strawberry. It’s like small blobs of curd that burst in your mouth leaving fresh and amazing flavors in your mouth. This was followed by dishes from their munchies section – Cone Papad, or poppadum (papad) presented in cone shape with masala filling inside & 3 Pepper Corn Chat, their version of spicy Nacho Chaat.
In the vegetarian starter section we tried a range of items including Papdi Paneer Tikka – Paneer tikka served in papad bowls, Paneer Maggi Tikka – another version of Paneer Tikka served on a bed of Maggi, Rajasthani Quesadilla – their fusion of quesadilla with spicy Indian Cottage Cheese masala – very tasty and highly recommended and Tacos On The Way – again a must try dish, both for the wonderful presentation and the awesome flavors. In the non-vegetarian starter section we tried their Chicken Lollies – or chicken lollipop which had fantastic flavors with a kick of chilly and would be a recommended item on their menu, Chicken Cheese Kebab – chicken seekh kebab filled with cheese (cheese lovers do try this), Shikam Puri Kebab – or mutton shami kebab with a twist of cheese filling inside and Fish Tacos – again a must try dish.
Among the other dishes, we also tried their Rajasthani Pizza and Penne Alfredo. The outer pizza crust had gone a little harder for my liking. The pasta was creamy & al dente – exactly how it should be. In the mock tails section we tried their Orange Kafir Lime, Green Apple Mojito, Watermelon Cooler and Virgin Mojito – all very fresh and chilled – perfect summer drinks.
Their Nitrogen Bhalla Papdi Chat & Dragon Popcorn is where all the theatrics start – it’s altogether a different & fun experience seeing them made in front of you and trying them – they play with liquid nitrogen at -196° C. I won’t divulge too many details about this, but be sure to try it when you visit the place for the novel experience.
In the mains section we tried their Veg Biryani with Curd caviar – pretty awesome in taste and presenting curd in the form of caviar – whoa what a fantastic idea! And Fish Wish from their continental section – a huge piece of grilled fish served with lemon butter sauce and accompanied with mash potato & grilled vegies – this could easily serve 2 people.
In the dessert section we tried their Kheer – thick, slightly sweetened, comparable to rabri and full of dry fruits; Paan Ice Cream – paan lovers please give it a try as this one had awesome taste and their Twist Chocolate Ball – probably the most good looking item on their menu – a beautiful ball of chocolate and as you see them pour hot chocolate sauce on it and see the sphere melt away to reveal the wonderful ice-cream inside, your mouth starts to salivate – a definite try on their menu.
