Staying in Delhi, what we miss most of the times is the authentic dishes from across areas. One such cuisine that we love and miss the most is Chettinad – authenticity is either missing or available in rarity. We were elated when one of our dear friends called us about the Chettinad Food Festival at Viva, Holiday Inn Aerocity. The person curating the menu is Chef Vijaya Kumar from Dakshin, Crowne Plaza Chennai and manages the culinary section of the 30 year old restaurant. It was bound to be good!
Available for dinner only, as part of the regular buffet, the Chettinad Food Festival is a good way of showcasing the cuisine made famous by the Chettinad Chicken. Chef Vijaya Kumar has done his best and that totally reflects in the dishes. Starting from the welcome drink till the dessert – you won’t stop relishing the dishes which are a result of the finesse of the chef.
Starters for the day we visited were Chettinad Meen Varual (Fried Fish) and Aatukkari Sukka (Dry Mutton). We had the Aatukkari Sukka with a crisp Ghee Dosa and believe us you have to try it out! The rotating menu keeps changing the starters. We also liked the Vadai made with beetroot – had a distinct appeal to it.
The main course spread is huge and we were totally spoilt for choice – with options of chettinad style curries with fish and chicken and ample options in vegetarian fare too. Chettinad Chicken Curry was the star dish of the day – the best we have had till date. Paired with kal dosa (the fluffier version of dosa) it was part of one of the best meals we have had recently. The other dishes on the menu included dishes like Kathirikka Murungakkai Masala (brinjal & drumstick), Keerai Kootu, Meen Curry etc. What impressed us the most is the variety and taste of the vegetarian dishes – there is a good choice available for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians.
Chef Vijaya Kumar has made great efforts for the festival and it totally reflects in the food. Head out to Viva at Holiday Inn, Aerocity to enjoy the most authentic #Chettinad cuisine you would get in NCR. The festival is on for dinner only till August 17.
