Chinese New Year Festival, ChaoBella – Review

Chinese New Year, the spring festival in Mainland China is traditionally world’s most prominent and celebrated festival. It’s a time for families to get together, have a meal and wish each other for a prosperous upcoming year. This year the New Year started on the 28th of January’17 and is on till 13th February’17.

The festivities at ChaoBella, Crowne Plaza Okhla has already started with a special delectable menu. The menu is a blend of cultural traditions of China and also consists of the ingredients that are considered to be auspicious. Consisting of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, the special menu is simple yet flavorful.

Longevity Glass Noodle Soup has chicken pieces cooked through in chicken broth, ginger and steamed vegetables served on top of glass noodles – a soul satisfying and warm soup – just what you would need in this weather. Although not on the menu, ask for the Steamed Dimsums, you will love them. The prawn and chicken dimsums were succulent and one of the very best that we have had. It’s a must have here. If you like prawns, try the Salt n Pepper Baked Prawns – a Cantonese dish, prawns baked with pepper & sea-salt. A great starter to start your meal with.

Cantonese Chicken is a good choice for the mains – chicken cooked through with a thick, spicy and glossy sauce. Pairs really well with a mushroom fried rice. Steamed Salmon with tau see bean sauce (fermented soy bean sauce) is an absolutely simple dish and the sauce compliments the subtle flavors of the fish. Tenderloin (sweet & spicy) is made with pineapple and pomegranate – the meat is crunchy and well cooked and the sauce is, as the name says, sweet, with the spice kicking in later.

During the festival, dessert is a platter of famous Chinese dessertssesame ice cream, coconut ball stuffed with chocolate and date wafer. We couldn’t taste the platter because we were too stuffed by the time we finished our main course (and we are so sad about that).

On till the February 13, the Chinese New Year Festival provides a great platform to taste authentic Chinese dishes by celebrity chefs.
