enter site Mamagoto is our favorite for fun Asian food. Striking a balance between authenticity and fusion is something that Mamagoto excels in. It is also quite evident from the regular menu of the restaurant and the occasional festivals that pop-up – take for the instance the Unwrapped Bento Box concept that was introduced sometime back, which provides portions of salad, stir fry, small plates and curry in a meal. The latest being Hawker’s Menu for the new season. The menu is inspired by the delicious food served in the streets of Thailand on Hawker carts. We were very excited to try this menu for it was to be a reminder of the street food fiesta we had in Thailand a couple of months back.
The menus differ slightly with the location (the menu is available at Saket, NOIDA, Gurgaon, Vasant Kunj, Khan Market outlets), so expect to see some new dishes during your visit and don’t be disappointed if you don’t see some dishes. We tried the menu at Mamagoto, DLF Mall of India, NOIDA.
Thai Puchka Bites (219) is a fusion of the Indian puchka (gol-gappa) and a variation of Thai Miang Kham – a puchka stuffed with betel leafpeanuts, shallots, lime, sweet ginger sauce and red chili. The sweetness from the sauce, the hot chilies, the crunch of the puchka and the peanuts and the coconut shaving make it a medley of flavors and textures. Aunty’s Platter ( 349/499) has dim sum, chicken satay skewers (with additional satay sauce, which is too good), spring rolls and banana chips/crispy bread served with dips; our favorite was the chicken satay – juicy chunks with a delectable satay and more of it 😊

Superhot Mama (399/449) is to be ordered only if you can handle spicy food – for the simple reason – it is spicy (served-with-a-dollop-of-ice-cream kind of spicy). Fried Tofu/Fish with topping of red chilli, basil and garlic paste and fried spinach leaves – hits you instantly. You will love it if you like spicy food – it has that rustic flavor of chilis. Even if you are not the adventurous type, you should atleast give it a try 😊. Lamb Sticks ( 399) are served on lemon grass skewers, with mint and green apple sauce – the smoky flavor, the juicy meat and the sweet-spicy green apple sauce make an unbeatable combo.

Sukiyaki Tofu/Chicken (329/349) are one pot meals that you should try – five spice marinated tofu/chicken with veggies and chili sesame sauce. You don’t really need to order any curry along with it as it is a meal in itself. Drizzle a little bit of the chili oil served along with and savor these dishes. If you can’t really think about eating without a curry on the side, do try Chicken in Hot Basil Sauce ( 349), which pretty much sums up the flavor – basil and chili – a perfect example of simple yet delicious flavors.

While you are done enjoying the Hawker’s Menu, don’t forget to try new items on the dessert menu – we tried the Nutella Cake (well, once we saw Nutella, our eyes just didn’t move forward) and it is indulgence personified. A soft base topped with Nutella layer and nuts, does it even need any more description?
Head to the nearest Mamagoto outlet and enjoy the Hawker’s Menu – it’s the best of Thai Street food you can get in your city.
