Dilli 32, the quintessential North Indian restaurant at The Leela Ambience Convention Hotel, Delhi, does everything to serve authentic and varied cuisines to its patrons. The Grand Trunk Culinary Journey (read about it here) last year saw cuisines from cities along the GT Road being served in the restaurant. This time around, The Leela Ambience Convention Hotel brings to you the cuisine of the rulers. Dining with the Maharajas is a series of food festivals showcasing cuisines from the royal families across India. The first in the series is the Mahmoodabad Food Festival.
Chef de Cuisine Ashwani Kumar Singh and his team traveled to Mahmoodabad to know more about the cuisine – a practice he follows before each food festival – and the efforts reflect in the food.
Our starter platter of Gole Kebab, Kebab Miyanpuri, Shammi Kebab, Boti Kebab, Murgh Musallam Kebab, Murgh Aaftabi Kebab and Fish Fry was satisfying. Live Counters of Aloo Tikki, Kharche-ka-anda & Khade Masala Ka Keema dished out pretty good stuff too. Do try the Khade Masala Ka Keema – it’s delicious.
The menu offered on the dinner-only buffet is vast and as lavish as you can imagine – and why not, it is supposed to be from a land of nawabs and has to do justice. The menu changes everyday, for Chef Ashwani wants to showcase the variety and grandeur of the cuisine. Expect to see delicacies like Gosht Makhana Qorma, Tale Aloo Ka Salan, Murgh Zafrani, Murgh Mirch Dumpukh, Zamin Doz Machli, Paneer Hazrat Mahal, Dhingri Shabnam, among others.

The dessert section is not to be missed and has items like Dhood Ki Burfi, Laab-i-mashooq, Shahi Tukra, Chane Ka Halwa on a rotating basis. Laab-i-mashooq is an interesting dish made with beetroot and you must try it. Our advice – go easy on the food and save appetite for desserts, you can’t afford to miss them.
clockwise – rabri, pista halwa, laab-i-mashooq, mirch ka halwa
clockwise – gulab jamun, emarti, chane ka halwa, shahi tukra
A special mention for the decor an ambiance that has been created for the festival. With each festival, the team at The Leela Ambience Convention Hotel does an incredible job of transforming the restaurant to match the region the cuisine belongs to. This time too, Dilli 32 is all decked up royally – from the dresses of the servers, the cutlery, the setup and live ghazal singers.
