Pa Pa Ya, New Delhi – The Experience.

Pa Pa Ya, New Delhi – The Experience.

The latest venture of Massive Restaurants – the name behind Made In Punjab, Farzi Cafe & Masala Library – is Pa Pa Ya – a modern Asian restaurant with fusion dishes, the niche of Masssive Restaurants. We attended a launch of Pa Pa Ya with Dineout, where we got a firsthand experience of the excellence of this place (read about it here). The second visit revealed much more about Pa Pa Ya.

At the 4th floor of the Select Citywalk Mall, Saket, the restaurant very cleverly utilizes the dome, with the circular bar right under it and the ceiling being the highest of any restaurant is donned by exquisite designs.

When it comes to food, Pa Pa Ya begins at a different league altogether. We started our feast with Compressed Watermelon and Lime & Chili foam as the amuse bouche. The Sushi Tree is a treat to look at and so is the Sushi Boat – custom made tableware befitting the names, these are carriers of delectable sushi Carbon Sushi being the best of the lot – the squid ink colored rigid rice, melt in the mouth scallops and fish roe make it a star!

Tuna Tataki Pizza is something we had tried at the launch event too – it is acquired taste, somehow my partner didn’t figure that dish out, but I loved it.

Among the other sushi, tapas and small plates we tasted, we just loved the hauled chikin gogigui paozu with pakchoy kimchi – the lightly fermented bao compliments the korean style chicken stuffing perfectly. The other favorite was Hargao, Green Curry Prawn Farce – translucent prawn dumplings served on a bed of Thai green curry – this is a two in one dish – the goodness of two regions in one.

Whatever you do, don’t leave this place without trying the Lamb Rendang Curry. Traditionally, rendang curry was served at ceremonial occasions and to honor guests – and that continues till date – each meal at Pa Pa Ya is no less than an occasion where the customer is the honored guest! Served with what they call Roti Prata, the dish has meat falling off the bone and a mildly sweet curry. Singapore Chili Crab was the other main course on our table, served with Mantao Buns – crisp soft shell crabs with a sweet savory curry, this one’s a must try if you like crab meat.

Chocolate Ball on Fire is the signature dessert – and why not, it has all the goodness that you need – the gooey brownie, the creamy ice cream, the bed of dry fruits and nuts providing the necessary crunch, the fresh fruits and caramel, and the chocolate ball. The theatrics involving spirit and fire to melt the chocolate ball are a pleasant sight as well.

There are some very talented people at the bar, for this is one of the few places we liked the cocktails and mocktails at – we tried the Fuku Sour (vodka based) – which is served with a candy (the server did say some tech stuff about making the candy, which I completely missed 🙂) and Lighthouse (rum based) and loved them both.

The servers know the menu like the back of their hand – they explained each dish to us like they made it themselves and were always around with a smile on their face. The only miss we had was too much food on the table too soon, a periodical serve would have been much more appreciated.

The place is packed with energy – be it the multi level seating, the high ceiling which provides an overall sense of space all around, the servers with a smiling face, the joyful Chef Sahil Singh or the music – everything radiates energy, cheering you up.

We just can’t wait to go back to Pa Pa Ya for our next meal, and thank Zorawar Kalra and team Massive Restaurants for introducing Delhi to Pa Pa Ya.

This review was done on an invitation from the restaurant. Portions were customized for the experience.
