We have had a strong liking for Mexican food – mainly because of the medley of flavors that the cuisine has and also because of the similarities it has with the food we are used to. Though there are a lot of places serving Tex-Mex in Delhi-NCR, the preponderance of authenticity is something that is always absent. It’s good to see that the oldest Mexican restaurant in Delhi, Rodeo, is back in a new avatar – the legacy stays on with Rodeo Cantina & Kitchen, with the augmentation of a new menu, changed interiors and theme and a tequila inspired cocktail menu.
Reminiscent of the streets of Mexico, the interiors and ambiance of the place are inspired by the life of Mexico. Whether it is a quite lunch or a fun evening with friends that’s on your mind, Rodeo Cantina & Kitchen is going to be your choice. The day-time family restaurant coverts to a party place during the evening & night – letting you celebrate the liveliness that is reflected by the Mexican culture.
The bar is an attraction here – a stunning 16 foot, created with primarily wood donning graffiti and murals is as much a pleasure to look at, as is to devor the drinks made at the counter. With a menu consisting of hand-crafted tequila infused cocktails by Yangdup Lama, there is hardly anything that can do wrong here. While we stuck to Micheladas this time, Margaritas and Signature Tequila based Cocktails will be the agenda for next time. The beer based cocktails are quite refreshing if you have the fondness for beer – try Sunny Michelada which gets refreshing with an overdose of orange – marmalade, chunks, juice; or Mixed Berry variant which has a medley of berries and you will love it.
The menu is vast and you can expect to find your regular Mexican favorites and more at Rodeo Cantina & Kitchen. Tacos, Taquitos, Toastadas, Enchiladas and Fajitas – name it and you will have it on the menu. Our job of selecting items to be ordered was made easy with a special menu listing the best-sellers and specialties; a look at the actual menu made it clear that you will be spoilt for choices.
One of the best items on the menu, which you probably won’t find anywhere else in NCR is Chicharron de Queso – the Gouda Cheese is grilled to perfection and served with a fresh guacamole. If you love cheese (or you don’t), you will not be able to stop yourself from finishing this off. Another dish that stood out for us was Pollo Borracho – grilled chicken, marinated with chilli powder oregano and beer, this one’s a must have at Rodeo Cantina & Kitchen. Enough for 2 people – the chili oregano brings the best of the chicken while not overpowering the taste of the meat – served with pickled vegetables, this is clearly one of the best grilled chicken available out there.

There is no way you can’t try the Mexican favorites here – burritos, tacos, taquitos, enchiladas, fajitas – name it and they have it. We loved the Chicken Burrito the most – quite fulfilling – the chicken marinated in Mexican chilies and herbs is finger licking good, the bean rice stuffing with cheese and sour cream compliments it well. From the Taco choices, our favorite was the Chicken Al pastor Taco – the marination of orange, beer and chile pascila brings in a medley of flavors and a kick of course!
People with sweet tooth will love the desserts here – our picks – the i-can-never-have-enough-of-it Vanilla Tres Leches Cake and Churros with Chocolate Sauce. Tres leches (three milk) Cake is melt in the mouth, has perfect sweetness, balanced with crunch of nuts and the goodness of peach and strawberries. Churros are well made too, crispy outisde and soft and juicy inside with the apt sweetness. Given that we had them a while after served (a felony, we know), they were in pretty good state – still crisp and retained the flavor.
