TREND – Bar & Kitchen, it’s time to get #trending

The re-launch of Ansal Plaza, New Delhi promised to make it a one stop F&B hub. The first shopping mall to open in the northern part of the country, Ansal Plaza has an aura like no other. With many known brands & promising new entrants coming in, the promise made to make it a food hub seems to be getting fulfilled. One of new entrants is TREND – Bar & Kitchen, which aims at evolving the age old recipes and present them in a creative way.

One of the things that Trend excels in is plating. Age old recipes are plated and presented using modern day concepts like espuma (use of foam), smoke and cyro (cooking using liquid nitrogen). Take for for instance Puffed Aloo Chaat, which has crispy airy aloo, puffed using hot air, presented in quirky way, gives a complete new meaning to aloo chaat, without compromising on the flavors. Roti, Chutney, Achar is another item from the menu which presents 3 simple items in a new form – khasta naan, missi roti, masala bread, chana roti served with condiments of aubergine pickle, fig chutney, mint chutney, peach chutney, pyaaz (veg.) & additions of kingfish pickle, chettinad mutton pickle (non-veg).

Jack Daniel Tandoori Pork Belly packs the flavor of JD in every bite. Served with home-made aam papad, this dish will bowl you over. We were a bit surprised to see a khichdi on the menu, but then its not the normal one – Seven Grains Khichdi, Gurkha Chutney Paneer Pinwheel will make you want more! Made using seven grains, this is served with a paneer pinwheel (which tastes very good, we should tell you) and karela crisps. Frankly, never enjoyed khichdi more. Signature Butter Chicken was served with a Chur Chur Naan. We loved the Chur Chur Naan, which we could have had on it’s own, it is so good! Coming to the Butter Chicken, we were thinking what could they have done with the Butter Chicken to make it look good, after all it’s a curry! What came in amazed us – with its presentation and the taste. Served boneless, the gravy maintains the right balance. Loved it!

For dessert, we tried the Classic Creme Brulee, again presented in a very different way, with a sorbet and chocolate dust. The Creme Brulee was in itself creamy and maintained the perfect level of sweetness. The other desserts on the menu look very appealing and we are surely going back again to try them – Holy Cocunut, Shahi Malai Mille Fuille Tukda, Thandai Chantilly Cream, Rose-Raspberry Cotton Cheesecake, Fruit Water Aspic – have already got our hopes high!

Trend is still awaiting their alcohol license. Looking at their food menu and the dishes, we are really sure their cocktail menu will be a class apart. Nevertheless, the mocktail menu is quite interesting. Solkadi Sorbet, Falooda 2.0 and Eden Iced Tea were the ones ordered. We loved the Solkadi Sorbet, which presents the classic solkadi in a different avatar. Eden Iced Tea is made using hibiscus, strawberry and himalayan tea, is very refreshing and different from the usual we get. Didn’t quite get Falooda 2.0 being in the mocktail menu, we would have preferred it to be in the dessert menu.
