The eastern part of India is known to be a culture pot! Having its roots to music, art, literature and food, the diversified knowledge of people from Bengal & Bihar is incredible. The people are staunch upholders of their culture, and coming to food they churn out exquisite recipes where the vegetarian fare is as good as their non-vegetarian fare. You can only envision the culture and food of the area if you have experienced it.

Social Media Influencer, Food Blogger & a very dear friend, Mr. Maneesh Srivastava & Chef Rick Kundu of Hyatt Place, Gurgaon have consummated their abundant knowledge to give the people of Delhi NCR, a unique experience from the plates of Bihar & Bengal, their respective natives. The festival – #UndividedBengal – is ongoing at Hyatt Place, Gurgaon and is on till 3rd March 2019.

Being located in the vicinity of the Bay of Bengal, Bengal has a limitless source to seafood and varieties of fish. So the people love their fish and are hearty gourmands when it comes to their food. There is a sequence they follow whilst eating and the fare is always a balanced diet of rice, dal, vegetables and mutton/fish. Also the accompaniment of a slice of lime (lembu), chilly & salt is a must in every household. The rustic cuisine of Bihar is known to all – little choka (& mutton), preparations of sattu & the famed Champaran meat are well relished across the country. The festival #UndividedBengal gives a glimpse into the cuisine of the eastern states of India, with welcome drinks made of Sattu (a savory drink mostly had during the summers), starters like moong daal pakodas, guguni-samosa chaat (curried white pea with crushed samosa) , begun bhaja (crispy brinjal fry) and the famous Puchkas (or pani-puri).

Sweet dish after the meal is a must, and so we ended our meal with generous servings of gurer-payesh (kheer) which is also synonymous as a must have during every auspicious occasion, the world famous mishti-doi (sweet curd) and rosogolla. The festival is a must visit which not only gives an awareness into the culinary treats of the Eastern region of India but also helps you think as how diversified every part of India is with respect to culture and food habits.
